If you already own Ghost of Yōtei on PS5, you do not need to buy the Complete Edition to receive patch 2.0. The free update, announced for October 1, 2026 in territories covered by that date, adds Beauty of Yōtei mode, tracks for Watanabe Mode, armor appearance options and high contrast. The Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and the Most Wanted combat mode, however, require the Complete Edition or the paid upgrade for existing owners. The content is delivered through update 2.0, but downloading the patch does not grant access to the paid extras.
Free patch 2.0 or Complete Edition: side-by-side comparison
The distinction below is for players who already own the base game. Complete Edition buyers also receive the free improvements because they are part of the general update, not an exclusive purchase benefit.

|---|---|---|
| Beauty of Yōtei mode, featuring Ezo scenery and Photo Mode | Yes, free | Yes, as patch content |
| New Watanabe Mode tracks wherever that mode can be enabled | Yes, free | Yes, as patch content |
| Keep one armor set's appearance while using another set's stats | Yes, free | Yes, as patch content |

What owners receive without paying for the upgrade
Beauty of Yōtei lets you take in Ezo's landscapes in a screensaver-like presentation, with opportunities to capture images in Photo Mode. New tracks also come to Watanabe Mode and play throughout the game wherever the mode is enabled.
Beyond the visual and musical additions, there are two practical changes: players can retain an armor set's appearance while using another set's attributes, and a high-contrast accessibility option is being added. The Brazilian PlayStation announcement was corrected on August 14: the new Watanabe Mode tracks are free. They do not require the upgrade, despite an earlier mention in the Complete Edition description.
What costs extra: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted
Echoes of Sekigahara is a story expansion spanning two periods of Atsu's life. It covers events surrounding the Battle of Sekigahara and a later plot in Ezo involving Nagato and the Vipers. The previously unseen Ashoro Foothills area brings new enemies, weapons, mythic tales and abilities, armor and cosmetics, according to the official preview.
Most Wanted is a single-player survival mode with a roguelike-inspired structure: players select bounties, face waves and minibosses, gain perks during each run and can unlock characters and upgrades. PlayStation's September preview confirms four playable characters, including Atsu and Jin Sakai. Cosmetics earned in this mode can also be used in the main campaign and the expansion. Neither mode is included in free patch access for players who keep only the base edition.
I already own the game: should I buy the upgrade or the full game?
For existing Ghost of Yōtei owners, the announced option is the Complete Edition Upgrade, so there is no need to repurchase the full game. It unlocks Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted when they become available and includes the previously released Digital Deluxe Edition in-game content and the Charm of Hokkyokusei if an owner does not already have them. The price shown in the international announcement is a reference for that market; check the price and eligibility in the store tied to your account before paying.
The full Complete Edition also caters to new players: it bundles the base campaign, Ghost of Yōtei: Legends, the two new additions and the listed extras. The inclusion of Legends in the bundle does not mean the free patch made it exclusive to the upgrade. Online co-op requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, as noted in the official announcement.
Sakai Armor deadline and regional release dates
According to PlayStation, anyone who buys the Complete Edition digitally or pre-orders the upgrade by September 30, 2026 receives an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on their local availability date. This is an early unlock, not an exclusive item: the official preview says the armor can also be earned by playing Most Wanted. Do not confuse this pre-order bonus with access to the expansion and mode, which are part of the paid purchase.
Version 2.0 was announced for October 1, 2026 generally, but October 2, 2026 in certain territories, including parts of Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Actual availability depends on the store region. Downloading requires an internet connection and a PlayStation account. The physical Complete Edition was also announced for October, subject to local release windows; this guide does not assume an exact unlock time or a price in Brazilian reais.
How to choose what to install or purchase
- If you only want Beauty of Yōtei, Watanabe Mode tracks and armor and accessibility options, keep the base game and install the free patch 2.0 when it is available in your region.
- If you already own the game and want to play Echoes of Sekigahara or Most Wanted, check the Complete Edition Upgrade on your account. First confirm whether you already own the other extras.
- If you do not yet own Ghost of Yōtei, consider the Complete Edition as the package that bundles the game and announced content. Account separately for the PlayStation Plus requirement for online Legends play.
