Gears of War: E-Day has a general release date of October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a Steam release as well. Microsoft also lists cloud availability and Xbox Play Anywhere. On Game Pass, the game arrives day one for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. There is one important exception to the calendar: the Premium Edition offers up to five days of early access, starting October 1.
As of September 28, 2026, the official pages reviewed do not list PlayStation 5 or Xbox One among the announced platforms. Those pages also do not provide a single global unlock time for October 6. What is confirmed, therefore, is the date and the platform set announced by Xbox, without extending that information to versions or release times that have not been announced.

When does Gears of War: E-Day release?
The official release date is October 6, 2026. That is the date used by the Xbox game page and the Steam page for the standard edition. The Premium Edition moves access forward by up to five days, beginning on October 1.
This distinction matters for anyone who sees videos or streams before October 6 and assumes the launch has been moved forward for everyone. That is not what Xbox announced. October 6 remains the general release; October 1 is an early-access window tied to the Premium Edition.
The official pages reviewed do not provide one worldwide unlock time for the standard edition. It is therefore not safe to state an exact release time in Brasília or other time zones without a specific store or Xbox confirmation closer to launch.
Which platforms will the game be available on?
Xbox confirms Xbox Series X|S, PC and Steam. Official Xbox Wire material also includes cloud gaming and states that the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
Within the Xbox ecosystem, the product page lists Windows 10/11 and Xbox Series X|S. Play Anywhere means that an eligible digital Xbox purchase can be used on console and PC within Microsoft's ecosystem, with associated features such as cloud saves when available. It does not automatically turn a Steam purchase into an Xbox license.
What about PS5?
As of September 28, 2026, PS5 is not on the official platform list reviewed. That absence does not prove that a version could never be released, but it does mean there is not enough official confirmation to treat PS5 as a launch platform at this time.
What about Xbox One?
Xbox One is also absent from the announced platform list. The console version is presented as optimized for and intended for Xbox Series X|S.
How does Game Pass work at launch?
The official FAQ says Gears of War: E-Day will be available day one, on October 6, through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Xbox Wire likewise highlights the day-one launch on Ultimate.
That is more specific than simply saying that the game “is on Game Pass.” The plan matters. PC Game Pass is explicitly named for PC players. On console, the confirmed day-one plan for access to the game is Game Pass Ultimate. The official page does not promise the same-day release on lower-tier plans.
There is another distinction for online features: console online play may require a subscription that includes online multiplayer. The Xbox store includes this condition for online campaign co-op, Horde Siege, Versus and other network features.
What is already confirmed about campaign and multiplayer?
E-Day is an origin story set 14 years before the first Gears of War. The campaign follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the first moments of the Locust Horde invasion on Emergence Day.
- Solo campaign: confirmed.
- Split-screen co-op: confirmed for two players on console.
- Online co-op: confirmed for up to four players.
- Horde Siege: a PvE mode that expands the classic Horde concept across larger maps; official material describes three four-player squads operating on the same battlefield.
- Versus: confirmed PvP multiplayer, with competitive modes and new movement mechanics.
- Cross-platform play: the Xbox store lists cross-platform multiplayer and co-op across compatible Xbox ecosystem platforms.
The store page also lists technical features including 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, ray tracing, variable refresh rate and 60 fps or higher. Xbox notes that 4K and 60 fps require a compatible display, and results can vary with hardware.
What does the Premium Edition change?
The main pre-launch difference is up to five days of early access. The Premium Edition also includes the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, five seasonal customization packs and other items described in the store, in addition to the base game.
For players who simply want to start on the official release date, the standard edition and the confirmed Game Pass access for eligible plans begin on October 6. Buying Premium to start on October 1 is an edition choice, not a change to the general release date.
What should not yet be treated as confirmed?
The official information is already detailed, but some points still require caution. As of this review, there is no PS5 announcement, no Xbox One version listed and no single worldwide unlock time shown on the pages consulted. Rumors about future platforms, content or update dates should not be presented as launch information.
It is also important to separate technical support from a universal performance promise. The presence of 4K, ray tracing and 60 fps or higher in the store listing shows supported features, but it does not mean every PC configuration or every graphics mode will deliver all of them at the same time.
Checklist for choosing where to play
- If you play on Xbox Series X|S and already subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate, day-one access is confirmed for October 6.
- If you play on PC, you can use PC Game Pass or buy through the Xbox ecosystem; a Steam version is also available.
- If you want to move between Xbox and PC with one eligible purchase, check the Xbox Play Anywhere version.
- If you want to start on October 1, check the Premium Edition and its early-access conditions.
- If your platform is PS5 or Xbox One, do not treat rumors as confirmed availability: those versions are not listed on the official pages reviewed.
In short: Gears of War: E-Day launches for the general public on October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Steam, cloud gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere announced. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass receive the game day one. The Premium Edition can start up to five days earlier, on October 1. PS5 and Xbox One are not confirmed launch platforms in the official sources verified as of September 28.
