Final Fantasy Resonance demo: where to download and how save transfer works

The free Final Fantasy Resonance demo is available on PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, and PC. See where to download it, what Chapter 1 includes, and the confirmed limits for carrying your save into the full game.

The free FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE demo is available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. Square Enix says it covers the opening through the end of Chapter 1, with approximately 3 to 5 hours of gameplay, and that demo save data can be carried into the full game, scheduled for October 22, 2026.

The key point for anyone who wants to start now without losing progress is to choose the version where they intend to continue. The official sources reviewed confirm demo-to-full-game save carry-over, but do not announce save transfers across different platforms. For Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo explicitly states that save data from the two game versions cannot be transferred between them.

Where to download the Final Fantasy Resonance demo

The demo was released on September 3, 2026. The download path depends on the platform, but a pre-order is not required.

What the demo includes

The demo is not a disconnected mission. According to Square Enix, it follows the story from the opening through the end of Chapter 1, with an estimated length of 3 to 5 hours. The Xbox Store adds that players can freely explore the entire first chapter as it appears in the full version, although some level restrictions apply.

This section already introduces the turn-based RPG structure, the world of Grandshelt, and the Visions system. The idea is to let players genuinely begin the campaign before launch rather than test only an arena or an isolated slice.

How save transfer works

What is officially confirmed is straightforward: save data created in the demo can be carried into the full game. Square Enix repeats this in its general demo announcement, while the PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam pages also highlight continued progress.

What the reviewed official sources do not confirm is broad transfer between different ecosystems, such as starting on PS5 and continuing on Steam, or beginning on Switch 2 and importing the same file on Xbox. Therefore, “save carry-over” should not be read as “cross-platform save.”

There is also a specific limitation in the Nintendo ecosystem. The official Nintendo Switch 2 game page states that save data cannot be transferred from the Switch 2 version to the Switch version, or from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version. That makes it especially important to download the demo for the version you intend to buy.

On Xbox, the demo listing includes Xbox Play Anywhere and cloud saves. Those features indicate integration within the Xbox ecosystem, but they do not prove save compatibility with Steam, PlayStation, or Nintendo.

What to do before the October 22 launch

Square Enix has not detailed, in the sources reviewed, one universal technical import procedure with menus and screens for every platform. The safest precaution is therefore to keep the demo save in the same environment where the full game will be installed. Do not delete the demo data before confirming that the retail game has recognized your progress.

It is also worth checking that you are buying the same version you tested, especially on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The announced release date is October 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Steam on the Western pages reviewed.
